The Earthquake3D.com control panel shown on the left side of the window configures how the Earth and Earthquakes are shown.

The two sliders control the Magnitude and Age of Earthquake flags.

The Solid check box controls the transparency of the Earth.

The Inside check box removes the front surface of the Earth.

The Angles check box shows the angle lines that connect the Earthquakes to the center of the Earth.

The Flags check box show Flag markers for Earthquakes.

Clicking on individual Earthquake Flags will show the Earthquake magnitude at the bottom of the control panel.

In addition to the panel controls, several keyboard keys can be used to control the display (see below).

The Earthquake3D.com Indicator Panel is shown on the right side of the window.

The Help button will display a Help window which describes how to use the controls and keyboard.

The indicator panel shows the following items:

The Date and Universal Coordinated Time (UTC = GMT) for the Earthquake data. Refresh your browser to update the Earthquake information. Earthquake data is updated once an hour on the hour.

The Moon distance and phase values

The Total value indicates the total number of Earthquakes that are shown.

The Largest and the Smallest Earthquake magnitudes shown.

The Average value indicates the average value of all the Earthquakes being show.

The Score value represents the total value of all of the Earthquake magnitudes summed together.




HELP

Data is updated every 60 minutes. Refresh your browser for the current data.

Earthquake information is from the USGS 7 Day feed and shows Magnitude 4.5 and greater.

The color of the Earthquake rings shows the age: Whiter is newer. Redder is older.

The green flag shows the most recent Earthquake.

This page requires a browser that supports HTML5 and WebGL. Not all mobile browsers will work. You may need to try different browsers when using smart phones and tablets.



Mouse

Use the mouse wheel for zoom.

To stop the spin: Position the cursor in the center of the screen. Then Left click and move the mouse.

Move the cursor right or left while holding the left mouse button down to control the spin direction and speed.

Click on the small Earthquake flags to display the Earthquake magnitude.



Keys

F11 for Full Screen Mode.

D (or double click on the Earth) to SHOW or HIDE the Controls.

I to Zoom In.

O to Zoom Out.


EQ3D Controls

The MAG Slider controls how large an Earthquake must be to show its flag.

The
AGE slider controls which Earthquake flags are shown based on their age. Set it to 7 to show all 7 days.

The
Solid check box controls the transparency of the Earth.

The
Inside check box removes the front half of the Earth.

The
Angles check box shows the Earthquake Angle lines.

The
Flags check box shows the Magnitude Flags.



Astronomical Data

The orbit of the Moon is shown on the Earths surface as a white ring.

The orbit of the Sun around the Earth is shown on the Earths surface as a Blue ring. The night/day terminator is also shown as a blue ring.

The
Moon Full value represents the position (not illumination) of the Moon. 100 = Full. 0 = New.

The
Moon Distance value represents a normalized value ranging from 0 to 1 -- where 0 means the Moon is as close as it ever gets -- and 1 means it is as far as it ever gets. A value of 0.5 represents the average distance between the Earth and Moon
